Common questions about Spirit Origin Coffee — our coffee roasted at origin in Roatán, Honduras, ordering and worldwide shipping, visiting us, and the Coffee Omakase.
About Spirit Origin
What is Spirit Origin Coffee?
Spirit Origin Coffee is a specialty coffee roastery, café, and restaurant on the island of Roatán, Honduras. We roast Honduran specialty coffee at origin on an on-site Probat roaster, serve it in our café with SCA-certified baristas, and ship whole-bean and ground coffee worldwide. We also host the first Coffee Omakase in Central and South America and run a fine-dining restaurant, From the Roots. Learn more on our our story page.
What does "roasted at origin" mean?
"Roasted at origin" means the coffee is grown, harvested, processed, roasted, and packaged within the same country where it's produced — in our case, Honduras — rather than exporting raw green beans to be roasted abroad. We roast on a Probat in Roatán, days from the farms, so the coffee reaches you fresh instead of aged for months in transit. Read the full breakdown in why roasting at origin matters.
Where is Spirit Origin located?
Spirit Origin is located high on Roatán's mountain in the First Bight area, Bay Islands, Honduras. The site brings together our roastery, café, restaurant, and Coffee Omakase in one destination with panoramic island views. It's a destination visit rather than a roadside stop — see visiting us for directions.
What makes Spirit Origin different from other specialty coffee brands?
Spirit Origin roasts at origin in Honduras, which keeps more value in the producing community and delivers the coffee fresher than the traditional export model. We work with Cup of Excellence Honduras lots, employ SCA-certified baristas, package in home-compostable bags, and third-party test every lot for purity. We're also home to the first Coffee Omakase in Central and South America.
Our Coffee
What kind of coffee does Spirit Origin sell?
Spirit Origin sells single-origin Honduran specialty coffee, including Cup of Excellence lots that placed #1 and #2 nationally. Our varietals include Catuai, Bourbon, Parainema, and Geisha, available as filter and espresso roasts. Browse everything in our coffee shop.
What is Cup of Excellence coffee?
Cup of Excellence is the most prestigious national coffee competition in producing countries, where expert juries score the year's finest lots and the winners are sold at international auction. Spirit Origin sources top Honduran lots, including coffees that placed #1 and #2 in the national Cup of Excellence. You can read about the farms behind them on our coffee growers page.
How fresh is Spirit Origin coffee?
Because we roast at origin and nitrogen-seal immediately in high-barrier bags with a one-way degas valve, our coffee reaches you days from the roast rather than after months of ocean transit as green beans. Roasting inside the coffee's native micro-climate also preserves the aromatic compounds that degrade when green coffee absorbs moisture in shipping containers.
Is Spirit Origin coffee tested for quality and purity?
Yes. Every Spirit Origin lot is third-party tested for mycotoxins, pesticides, and herbicides, so you know exactly what's in the cup. Our packaging is also certified home-compostable (TÜV OK Compost HOME).
Do you sell whole bean or ground coffee?
Both. You can choose whole bean or ground on each product page before adding to cart. For the freshest cup we recommend buying whole bean and grinding just before brewing.
Ordering, Shipping & Subscriptions
Do you ship coffee internationally?
Yes — Spirit Origin ships specialty coffee worldwide from our roastery in Roatán, Honduras. Shipping within the United States is a flat $8.99, and international orders are priced live via DHL at checkout based on your destination. See our shipping policy for full details.
How is your coffee packaged?
Our coffee ships in high-barrier bags with a one-way degas valve that seals in aromatics and essential oils immediately after roasting. The packaging is certified home-compostable (TÜV OK Compost HOME), so it breaks down in a home compost rather than landfill.
How should I store my coffee?
Store your coffee in a cool, dry place away from direct light, heat, and moisture, and keep it sealed. For the best flavor, buy whole bean and grind right before brewing, and use it within a few weeks of opening.
Do you offer a coffee subscription?
Yes. To subscribe, open any coffee product and select the "Subscribe & save 20%" option before adding to cart — you'll receive that coffee on a recurring schedule at 20% off and can change or cancel anytime. Browse the lots in our coffee shop.
Do you offer wholesale or B2B coffee?
Yes. Spirit Origin works with cafés, restaurants, hotels, and businesses looking to serve specialty Honduran coffee roasted at origin. Visit our wholesale page to get started.
